Blog
Here at eBikes Bali we have been happily serving Bali visitors since 2016. We have literally shown this beautiful island to thousands of guests and are now one of the best reviewed activities in all of Bali. We have achieved that by always striving to improve and by giving our guests an exceptional experience.
Over the years we have had so many guests ask us about Ubud waterfalls; which ones are best, and how to get to them. Well, we have listened and have now brought that first class eBikes Bali quality to our newest activity, Ubud Waterfall Tours.
Our Ubud waterfall tours take you around in our open-air buggy to three of Ubud’s best waterfalls. These waterfalls have been chosen not just for their amazing beauty, but also for providing an overall incredible experience. That means, swimming, superb photo ops, super chill environments, all without having to go far outside of Ubud.
The Ubud rice fields have been a pillar of the Balinese culture for centuries. The flowing emerald green fields are not just a beauty to behold but play a key role is much of the Balinese way of life. And underpinning these amazing rice fields is the subak system. The subak is a system of water management which disperses the precious water from the key sources right down to each individual farmer’s rice field. This system of water management has allowed Bali to be one of the most productive rice growing regions in the less developed world.
These majestic rice fields actually go through many stages, each beautiful in it’s own regard. From the tilling of the fields, to the planting of the rice, to the green growth, the golden ripening, and finally the harvest.
Over the years eBikes Bali has been fortunate to have had thousands of happy customers. Thousands of satisfied customers have given us 5-star reviews on various platforms and that genuinely warms our hearts. Thanks!
With a combination of a fast, efficient reservations system, friendly staff, excellent top of the line bikes, and a commitment to quality, we assure our customers an amazing time and the proof is in the many years of happy customers.

Ubud is a cultural landmark near Bali’s central uplands. There are so many things to do in Ubud we thought we would give you a good starting point. Veteran travelers understand that when it comes to travel experiences it’s always quality over quantity! Good thing there are so many high quality things to do in Ubud.
Before we begin, a bit of a disclaimer! We are eBikes Bali and #1 and #2 on our list are our tours. But honestly, they are great. Read our reviews, our guests LOVE our electric cycling tours.
Now that that’s out of the way, Let’s check out our recommendations for the best things to do in Ubud.
For a first-timer, going on a holiday to Bali can be a bit overwhelming since the island has so many things to offer. It’s okay if you feel the same way, too. The most important thing is not to let your feelings get in the way so that you can decide what you should do to explore Bali in the best way possible.
Most travelers prefer to ride a motorbike to explore the island. But we have a better, cheaper, and more environmental-friendly option for you to try: Bali cycling tour! This activity is awesome because you get to see the views first-hand. You can also follow your own schedule.
However, we can’t deny the fact that joining a Bali cycling tour can be challenging, especially if it’s your first time. Worry not, we have compiled a simple guide and useful tips to help you get the best experience possible.
Book your tour
First thing first, book your Bali cycling tour. For those of you who are not really confident with your cycling skill, eBikes Bali can be a great option for you. It’s also great for older people or people who have problems with knees because we use high-quality electric bikes.
These bikes allow you to pedal, use electric, or any combination of the two. This way, you can bike around Bali comfortably since it requires less effort. Don’t worry, we also have high-capacity batteries so you will never run out of power during your trip.
Where to bike in Bali
Although Bali has amazing landscapes, not every place is suitable for you to bike through. Besides, Bali’s traffic is quite chaotic, so a bike ride in areas like Kuta and Denpasar is not recommended.
So, where can you ride a bike in Bali?
Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of options you can choose. If you want to see the breathtaking view, head north to Gunung Agung, Batur, and Kintamani. You can also head to Pura Besakih to visit the temple. Ubud is also a great place to bike as you can see beautiful rice fields along the way. Don’t forget to visit Goa Gajah Elephant Cave, too!
Best time for Bali cycling tour
Bali is usually busier during the dry season in April and September. The hot weather is good to enjoy on the beaches, but not so much for the cycling. Meanwhile, the rainy season lasts from October to March. The weather tends to be cooler but you don’t want to risk getting wet during your Bali cycling tour because of the rain.
That’s why we recommend you to take a bike trip to Bali at the end or the beginning of the rainy season. During this time, the skies are often cloudy but the chance of raining is relatively low.
Additional tips for your safety and comfort
To make sure you have a great time during your Bali cycling tour, don’t forget to follow these rules:
- Check the bike before heading out, make sure the brakes work properly and wheels are aligned.
- Make sure the road conditions are the type you can handle
- Bring your own helmet and gloves to ensure proper protection.
- Left-hand traffic prevails in Indonesia, so please ride on the left side of the road
- If there’s a basket in front of your bike, don’t put any of your valuables on it. Snatch-thefts on bikes and motorbikes have been known to happen.
Now you’re ready to have your first Bali cycling tour experience! Have fun!
Bali offers many destinations for your holiday needs. If you want to blend in with the crowds and party all night, Kuta is the way to go. But if you’re looking for a more relaxed destination, there’s no better place than Ubud. That’s why many people like to bring their families here for a holiday. It’s very kid friendly!
However, just because you bring kids for a holiday in Ubud, doesn’t mean you should limit your options for enjoying. The options are endless! Sure, you could rent a car to explore Ubud’s attractions and still have a great day. But, if you have some time to spare, joining an Ubud cycling tour may provide a meaningful experience that you never expected to have. And your family will thank you for that!
Bonding time!
Cycling around Ubud has its own perks for your family. First and foremost, you can hang out as a family and have fun together in a more adventurous way. Spending quality time being active with your family is a great way to bond.
Not only do you encourage your family to do something that can benefit their health, but you can also help your kids to create good habits around their physical activity. Besides, the whole experience of an Ubud cycling tour with your kids will also create an amazing experience that your kids will remember.
The views are spectacular
Ah, Ubud and its iconic views. You’ll find yourself in awe as you and your family are cycling around the area. There are actually many routes you can explore during the tour. But we recommend you to visit the Tegalalang Rice Terrace or Tirta Empul water temple. Along the way, prepare yourself to see the most beautiful rice fields. Many people consider this a highlight of their cycling trip through Ubud.
It’s suitable for both kids and elders
One of the most common concerns when it comes to cycling in Ubud is the safety, especially if you’re bringing your family members from different age ranges. Well, actually there’s nothing to worry about because there is a range of different bikes available to suit all riders’ abilities.
The key is to find the right service provider for your Ubud cycling tour plan. One great option is to go cycling with eBikes Bali, especially if your grandma or grandpa are planning to come along, too. eBikes Bali provides an Ubud cycling tour using electric bikes. These bikes allow you to pedal, use electric, or any combination of the two. That means anyone can do our cycling tour since it requires less effort.
Full culture experience for the whole family
Last but definitely not least, an Ubud cycling tour also allows you to get the full culture experience for the whole family. For instance, if you choose to sign up for the eBikes Bali Tegalalang tour, you can ride through the village and visit temples. Don’t worry, the whole way you will be accompanied by a local guide who is super happy to share their culture with you and your family.
So, next time you find yourself and your family in Ubud, make sure to explore the area by joining the Ubud cycling tour. It’s the best way to feel the breeze in your hair and the fresh smell of Ubud’s nature. Besides, cycling in Ubud is also eco-friendly!
Often the gateway to exploring the cultural of a society is through their museums. In Ubud the museums are focused on local painters though you will also find some sculpture. I have found Ubud museums to be great places to spend a relaxing afternoon. They all have peaceful settings and coffee shops on premises.
Here are a few Ubud Museums to check out.
Blanco Renaissance Museum (Ubud)
The museum is situated on a gorgeous hilltop and features the works of legendary painter, Don Antonio. Antonio’s works are influenced by the beautiful people of the island. Blanco was not a native to Bali. He moved to Ubud and his arts found great acceptance among the people. Art you will find in the museum include erotic paintings of nude women and illustrated poetry. The museum is a huge majestic art center with European architecture. There is plenty to discover at this museum.
Museum Puri Lukisan (Ubud)
Prince Tjokorda Gde Agung Sukawati of Ubud founded the museum with his friend Rudolf Bonnet in 1956 and it is the oldest museum in Bali. The museum focuses on modern painters and sculptors who work in traditional styles. It’s a beautiful building and there’s a garden to relax in. Try to get to the museum in the morning as it gets quite crowded in the afternoons.
Museum Rudana (Ubud)
The museum was founded in 1995 by a local politician, Nyoman Rudana. It is located in Peliatan village east of the center of Ubud. The focus of the museum is preserving Balinese arts and early paintings. You will find paintings as far back as 150 years ago. It also includes modern paintings. The museum is a three floor building with much to offer.
ARMA Museum (Ubud)
This is perhaps my favorite museum in Ubud. One could make a wonderful afternoon out of exploring the sprawling grounds. ARMA features both modern art and some of the finest examples of the older works of Bali.
Enjoy the adventure!
New Year’s Eve in Ubud has always been a hidden gem. While the party zones in the South of Bali are drowning in traffic, packed bars that you can’t get a drink in, and packed restaurants you can’t get a table at, a busier than normal Ubud becomes an awesome place to celebrate New Year’s Eve 2024.
So, what does Ubud have in store for the New Year’s Eve partiers of 2024? Well, my money is on Cantina/Boliche.
So what is this place that those in the know have chosen as their Ubud New Year’s eve destination? Read on…
Cantina restaurant sits in the valley above Ubud’s amazing Gunung Lebah Temple. A tastefully decorated open air experience with incredible views and even more amazing food. For all the details on Cantina’s offerings for New Year’s Eve 2024 please check out the full writeup in Now Bali.
Starting at 8PM, Boliche will begin an epic musical journey of back-to-back DJ sets featuring island-favourite artists. After dinner, both Cantina and Boliche will become distinct party areas – each with their own DJ and bar, with drinks specials going all night. Enjoy the intimate, soundproofed indoor party space of Boliche, or the open-air atmosphere of Cantina until the wee hours of 2024 — now that’s how to ring in the new year! Boliche is open for guests not joining dinner starting from 8PM onwards.
Excited? I know we are! I think that this is going to be the best Ubud New Year’s Eve party spot for 2024!

Cycling in Ubud seems like such a great idea. That is until you figure out that Ubud is full of hills, and for much of the year, quite warm. This is why most Ubud cycling tours drive their guests up the mountain and then let them roll down. But to me, sitting in a crowded van in traffic just to roll down a hill is not my idea of a good time. For this reason, and may others, an electric cycling tour with eBikes Bali is your best choice for seeing the real Bali.
Many people come to Bali hoping to see an Ubud cremation ceremony. As Ubud is still relatively rural and is often referred to as being the cultural center of Bali, the cremation ceremonies tend to be quite extravagant. So what are these ceremonies all about?
One most important parts of Balinese culture is the cremation ceremony. This ritual act offers the last circle of life respect to the departed. The intention is to commit the dead to the spirit world and for the repose of their souls. In Balinese culture, you will often hear the word Ngaben, Pretiwaan and Plebon; do not be confused, these words refer to cremation but for different people involved.
The word Ngaben refers to cremation rite for ordinary people; the commoners. Cremation ceremonies for royalty are described with the word Plebon while priests take the description Pretiwaan. Cremation ceremonies have three other types as well. There is the modest cremation known in local Balinese culture as Nista. You will also hear of Madya which is known as the middle-level cremation. The final level of cremation is Utama also known as Prime cremation.
Times for Cremation ceremonies
The various levels of cremation are done according to Bali’s auspicious calendar. The bigger the cremation ceremony, the more the time required to prepare for it. The longer it takes to prepare for the ceremony, the more money is needed. However, it is typical of most Balinese to wait until a later date, sometimes a few years before doing the cremation. This means that the body is buried for years before being burnt in the cremation. The exception to this ritual of delaying cremation is when a notable personality such as a priest passes away. In this case the cremation ceremony will take place as soon as possible. It will usually be that these prime cremation ceremonies take place soon after the death happened.
Collective Cremation Ceremonies
There are occasions (every three to five years) that the Ubud village council will organize mass cremation to give families with pending cremation rites to come together to hold cremation rituals. Participating in collective cremation ceremonies helps to reduce expected cremation expenses and make it affordable for the people to send forth their deceased relations. The locals refer to joint cremation as Atiwa-tiwa Kinembulan, Ngaben Ngerit or Ngaben Masal.
It is obligatory for the surviving son of the deceased in a family to make proper preparations and do proper cremation for their departed parents. For the deceased with no children or a spouse, it is the responsibility of their close relations to do a proper cremation rite for their departed family.
Bali cremation ceremonies are tourist delights as they provide a spectacular opportunity to witness Balinese culture firsthand. You will be greeted with Balinese hospitality as you join them in sending forth their departed relations. Cremation ceremonies come up at different times of the year. If you would like to participate, find out when the next ceremonies are and make preparations to attend.
The eBikes Bali Ubud rice terrace tour has had the opportunity to see quite a few cremation ceremonies along our route. We always stop and let our guests enjoy this one of a kind experience. And even if there is no cremation going on you should still come on our tour It’s definitely the best way to see Bali!
